camp notes

Camping with a baby is very different from other kinds of camping. Not necessarily harder, although packing is a challenge. Just different. It’s harder to get Blake involved in things like canoeing and swimming without neglecting Maggie. Naps are welcome breaks for the both of us. Mealtimes are pretty hairy, with Maggie in my lap screeching imperiously whenever the flow of food bits slows.

I’m having a good time, but I wish Mason were here. Last night I slept with Maggie, the two of us staking out different areas of two squeaky, pushed-together cots. The walls above our beds are a dense intaglio of names and declarations of cabin superiority. Very vivid dreams last night of friends and knitters.
