she comes to me in dreams

I had a beautiful dream about my grandmother a few nights ago. I was standing outside my back door, trying to finish a sewing project, when my grandmother came flying up the driveway in an old car. She popped out from behind the wheel and told me she’d brought me a button to finish my apron. I looked down to see that I was wearing a 1940’s style housedress made out of my blue striped sheets, and an apron of the same material. She sewed on the button, talking to me and laughing. She was as kind as I remember from when I was a child.

Today I was looking forward to a head start on the rest I always get on Labour Day, but there was just too much going on. I did my run in the morning (biking to and from the shop for the first time), went to church, and then we all went grocery shopping. Mason isn’t feeling well, so he went for a lie-down while the baby napped; I did loads of laundry and sent Blake out with my dad after a library book. When my mom woke up from her nap, I took her to Reitman’s so that we could use the coupons I got last spring for some fall clothes. I ended up getting a whole outfit, which was pretty neat. When I got home I had time to hang half a load before dinner was on the table, then more laundry, “the Muppets Take Manhattan” with Blake, folding, a late-night trip for medicine for Mason, and here I am. I bunched up all my rest tomorrow, which will make it all the sweeter. Now I have to go lie down myself, as I have another run tomorrow morning.
